Anyone here used Mail for Exchange or set it up to work with Exchange 2003?

I have a Nokia E65 and I have followed these instructions, http://www.nostrasystems.ie/smartphone.php to set up the phone. I can see on our firewall that traffic is coming through from the internet over http to our MX_Record however the phone wont sync or connect. Should I be seeing traffic on my exchange server? im not sure where to look to see it. Any ideas? Im not sure if the problem is with the setup on the phone, my firewall or on exchange.

    Thanks

Did you have to make any changes to your exchange server? When youre connected is there any way of seeing this in Exchange?

    Thanks

You need to ensure that the mail server is allowing mobile mail server (it also has to be exchange 2003 sp2). This guide gives a good overview:

We've been using this system for a good while now and it works well.

Ive only 1 Exchange server, and its running SP2. I had a read through that but most of it doesnt apply to me as Ive only one server, everything else seems to be set ok.

When I try to sync I immediately get an error message saying "Unable to connect to server, verify your connection settings or try again later"

In Connection settings, under Exchange server I just have my MX Record, is that correct?
Do you know what ports I need to configure on my firewall?

Mail for Exchange uses the Outlook Mobile Access (OMA). Its similar to Outlook Web Access (OWA) but designed for Mobile devices.
Is your firewall set to point port 443 to the exchange server?

Easiest way to test is access your OWA.
Goto https://<mx record of your mail server>/exchange

You may get errors about certificates but don't worry. If you get to a log in page for your exchange server then you have the correct ports forwarded.

If it doesnt work externally, check that it runs internally first.
    goto
    https://<internel server name>/exchange

If it works internally but doesn't externally then there is definately an issue with the correct ports being forwarded.

Yeah OWA is working correctly both internally and externally, just on http though not https.

Internally I can also browse to http://<servername>/oma but get an unsupported device message which is fine. But when I try externally to browse to http://<MX_Record>/oma from the phone I get an error message saying "Page not found, check web address"

Does that mean its an IIS problem?

    Thanks

More than likely the problem may be with IIS if you cannot connect to OWA via https.

There may be a reason why its setup the way it is setup so before making any changes make sure you can without annoying any of your users :)

Still, within IIS right click on default web site and select properties, select the directory security tab. Bottom option is Secure Communications, select edit and see if the SSL box is checked...

Got it sorted. Im not sure why I have this set up, need to investigate.

I have a PTR record set up for Webmail, webmail.domainname.ie points to a seperate public IP address than my MX Record.

So externally I dont connect to http://MXRecord/exchange I connect to http://Webmail.domainname.ie/exchange
So I just needed to point the phone to the Webmail IP address not the MXRecord.
