Dear all, I am looking at the following laptop, and my needs are simple !!
    01. fast internet access is critical
    02. the ability to watch German channels via the internet (basically TV then !)

The size of screen is swaying me towards this machine as my better half wishes to view more German channels than the 1 we get on Sky. Cost isn't an issue, though if this is cheaper somewhere, happy days !!
So my questions is - will this system answer Q1 and Q2 ?
My current laptop uses a plug-in Belkin card to pick up my internet and is DOG slow, even though signal states from 24-48 Mbps. and i mean DOG !
once again thanks in advance to the clever people on here for your time and advice.

    Acer Aspire 8920G-934G50Bn - LX.AP30X.036 €1575.97 (laptopsdirect.ie)
    Interfaces : 4 x Hi-Speed USB - 4 PIN USB Type A ¦ 1 x display / video - HDMI ¦ 1 x infrared - IrDA ¦ 1 x display / video - VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) ¦ 1 x audio - SPDIF output/headphones/line-out - mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ¦ 1 x microphone - input - mini-phone 3.5mm ¦ 1 x audio - line-In - mini-phone 3.5mm ¦ 1 x modem - phone line - RJ-11 ¦ 1 x network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T - RJ-45 ¦ TV antenna - input

My suggestion is to check out the brand new dell laptop range just released yesterday:
    Dell Studio Laptops
    And:

Just buy an extra Tv viewer card for an additional €40 from dell.
    Cheap and good laptop!

Fast internet has nothing to do with the laptop - it depends on who you get your internet from.

Again, if you are getting TV from the internet, then this is nothing to do with the laptop. Apart from the fact you might want one with a big (17 inch?) screen.

A tv tuner card picks up broadcast signals. jacool is taking about viewing streaming tv from the internet, so a tv tuner card would be worthless.

Ah yeah, didnt read it properly!

But yeah I agree with what you stated in your previous comment, any general laptop with ethernet will do. Big screen would be better for tv though. The Dell Studio 17 sounds perfect, 17" screen, HDMI outputs, optional Blu Ray also. I customised one for €800 which has great specs! Check it out:

    thanks Gents.,
this PC I selected based on screen size being the biggest, although I suppose between 17 and 18 there may not be much (just wanted to guarantee that picture viewing would be of a good quality)
Am I also to take it that there no special add-ons required for streaming internet then, other than a good internet connection ?
I'm on eircom Broadband Home Plus 2MB at present.
will look at Dells - a friend has mentioned the 1730XPS models.
    thanks again
