So how much for the rack space, Electricity, Backhaul etc (paid to eircom) to use this now "economic" LLU. Or is it still more expensive than other European retail?

That would be covered in the WUA consultation Watty which is ongoing.

Looks like a good first move, hope it will push more telcos to use LLU and for the existing LLU players to unbundle more exchanges and reduce their line rental (ahem, looking at you Smart).

So will LLU operators jump all over this, or still worry about long-term strategy around NGNs?

Well lets see where it brings us....there is a lot of work still to be done on LLU on all sides (see WUA consutation for example). But this is a good first baby step.

    Yes, in fairness, it is.

I hope WUA (and the various charges/timescales) all don't drag on too long to make the whole process meaningless (as I'm sure any NGN-related USOs will all have to be negotiated, and will, on current form, only be done AFTER eircom has gone a good bit down the road. Hopefully WUA won't drag on, so that at least low-hanging fruit exchanges can be LLUed with relative ease (and not just be a viable long term investment).

A number of telcos have talked the talk on LLU pricing being the inhibitor (although whole or shared wasn't mentioned a whole lot), so lets see some walking the walk now!

The same WUA consultation where section 3.73 baldly states that eircom has "2.2m LINES" instead of 2.2m Access Channels.

Why am I fearful when they make a fundamental mistake like that ?? :(
