I have talk 300 on meteor and my first bill came in about a week and a half ago. It says on the bottom of the bill that it will be debited from my account today. I don't think my account is set up for direct debits as such, can I go into a meteor shop with my bill and pay it through them?

Your account has to be set up for either DD or Credit Card Payments. It's a non-optional part of the sign up. You can pay your bill in store but if it's within 3 working days of the DD date on the bill, it can happen that your DD will be taken and you'll have paid in store too. Stores can't do refunds on bill payments. It has to be done through Credit Control which can take up to 10 working days.

Ah I see man, when I set up my account with meteor I didn't realise that my bank account was not able to do direct debits. But I changed my account on thurs so hopefully this will help. Thanks for the information.

Direct debit is not mandatory they may ask for it at signup as a condition but it's certainly doesn't form part of your contract and you can cancel it at any stage and there's nothing they can do about it - you can also make payments at Billpay.ie

Wrong. It is mandatory to register direct debit or credit card details when signing up. These details are kept for the first 3 months and then it's up to the customer whether or not they want them removed.

You can still make manual payment during the first 3 months though. If you pay in store or in a post office at least 72 hours before the due date Meteor will not apply for a DD/CC payment that month, otherwise they will.
