Freevo install on an old crappy pc

I'm going to try an install of Debian Linux which I got working previously on a 266mhz pc and it ran perfectly smooth. This time however 'm going to do a fresh install on a 600mhz p3 128mb ram and then install Freevo on top.

    http://freevo.sourceforge.net/

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this on something that old and if the video ran ok. It says the min specs are a 400mhz but the min specs don't always do the job. Also wondering if anyone could answer a few questions on linux as they arise as I'm not the best with it.

    Thanks.

128MB RAM will be very tight to put it mildly. It all depends on what you want it to do. If it is just a media player/client, then consider GeexBox rather than freevo.

The only CPU intensive task is the video decoding, assuming you are using a PVR card. 600Mhz P3 "should" be able to decode it. Just thik back to the kind of files you used to watch on a 600Mhz machine and that will give you an idea.

There's a couple of linux heads around here, including myself, so post away. I can always move a thread to the *nix board if needed.

GB-PVR on windows 2000 is another lightweight combo, but really id be looking for more RAM no matter what the setup, 256MB at the very least.

gotcha boss i'll up the ram which shouldnt be a problem.

I looked over GB-PVR and the system requirements are a 1ghz machine at minimum so it looks like I'll be going with the linux build. I'll let you know how it goes in the end.

thanks for the advice tho, much appreciated.
