That €20k your drinking money :D

In Rep. of Ireland college is free for all Irish students but €6k for EU students and €13k for everyone else the price differs from course to course.

If you are not on a grant you have to pay €900 reg fee but if you are not its something like €65 or something.

If you are living away from home you can end spending €300 a week (100 rent, 100 food, 10000000000 drink :D)

If you arent its prob only €150 or so a week but im not sure as I live im Maynooth during the year.

Thanks for that clarity. I'm Irish and will probably be on the grant.

I'm on a half-grant, living at home and working part time, books were probably the biggest expense for me during the year, then again not paying rent that often really does make a difference I'd imagine.

Well I've been in college here now for 5 years, and I'm not a cent in debt. Got the grant, renting, no monies from parents, earn part time money.

Just finished second year, 6k in debt, not inclueding the 1600 I've already paid off.

Then again, I did buy a piano.

And I've to pay 200 for the 8 exams to repeat from christmas where I couldn't afford time off work [Tesco, MAynooth] to sit them.

the full grant is 4k or less,so you must bd getting the full one.100 quid for food is a lot,the person who said that must eat out a lot!I reckon it will cost almost 7k for a year, maybe a bit less if you budget really well op.

    :P

Gotta agree with Brianthebard, about 7k a year would cover you, about half of which would be on rent.

    Thats mad money :p
Thinking of going to the VEC about a grant, and getting a head start on it with the accountant. Was late last year for a PLC grant, theres a lot to do.
Is now the right time to make a start?

If you got a grant for you PLC, you should definitely get one this year. Did you live at home for last year's course?

If you're working for the summer, save some of the money. Apply for part-time jobs when you get to college, and budget yourself as much as possible, you'll be fine.

On another note, are there actually many students that depend on parents for finances while living away for college? This thought just occurred to me, I'd be interested to know if many people do.

My parents give me minimal amounts of monies, however i did live at home last year and got the bus in gach la. I really need to get a Partytime job for next year and i really dont want to get a loan! Hoping to stay at home next year also and mabie bike it to college. I'll have to time myself one day haha. Tis handy i guess, living in Lucan.
