I have been using some cheap headpnoes for the last 2 years and have had no problems. I don't need them to be perfect as I usually allow VDJ to cue for me! I know that's going to get me lots of remarks like 'you're not a real DJ' etc, but if it works for me, then why not?!

I need to get some new ones now, so was wondering what people would suggest? They don't have to be the best in the world, just some that look ok, have a good sound, and that have a reasonable length of cable so I don't pull them out of the mixer. (Yes it does happen - 'what's that? you want what song? - oh **** there goes the mixer!)

Something in the region of €15 to €30 would be ok for me, but will still have to persude Mrs Spider that I need them!

I bought Sennhesier HD215's off Ebay for around 50 euro recently. Nice yokeys, fantastic sound, long coiled cable, padded around the headband...perfect!

    Wouldn't bother, you're not a real DJ :p

DJKAV do you actually read posts? If you read my first post you will see my budget is not that high. I have had the phones I had for over 2 years and it was only last week I dropped one pair and they broke. In fact I could still use them as it was only the one cup that came off!

The other pair I like to keep for my laptop, as I found the last pair the plug wore out from taking them out and plugging them back in. I might just buy another pair like them, but I got them at a market and haven't seen them since.

Lab Price $695!!!!! Are my eyes deceiving me?

    I'd go for these http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR203596

IMO the sennheiser are to plasticy and thin/small. I prefer something that can take a bit of a beating!!

You need to clear it with the Missus when you want to spend €15? WUUPAAHH!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,958 ✭✭✭DJ_Spider

It's not that BaZmO* I am always asking for more and more stuff, we have bills and she doesn't work due to an injury she got at work. So every time I need something I have to pursude her I really need it! Mind you she did give me the money to buy my shiny thing, that was 3.5K!

But I hardly ever buy her anything and feel guilty when I keep getting stuff. I know a bit under the thumb, but I love her so what the hell!

One piece of advice I give to any DJ is to invest in good headphones with good environmental noise attenuation, your hearing is your most important asset so why spoil it by using cheap headphones? By all means buy sub standard cd players/mixer and upgrade when you have the funds, but get good headphones from day 1 and protect your ears!!
DJ Spider I appreciate you are on a budget but I would advise you to push for a set of sennheisers for about 60-80 notes.. they used to do a great set which had very distinct white cups (i dont know the model). Stay away from the Sonys and other similar models as the swivel cup mechanism breaks eventually, sennheisers have relatively simple (but very effective) headbands which will take the abuse and can be cheaply repaired/replaced.

    Okay DJ spider.

    your price range is 15-30.

    thats kool and the gang.

go for these, they are 20 euro,Sony, and they can be bought in Argos,of all places!

This is what i started off on,then i moved up to more heavy weight Sennheisers.

but these sony ones are fine, seeing as you are using Virtual Dj,you dont need elaborate f**k off headphones.

I dont want to start recommending expensive headphones,as you seem to be on a budget :)

But if you ever upgrade to stand alone Cd decks or technics and the likes, just shell out the cash and buy the best you can,you could be talking at least 70 to 80 euro.

however, its money well spent,as you will need hefty headphones that will block out ambient noise while cueing up tracks, setting cue points, setting up loops etc etc etc.

thats the image of the sonys.
sure theyre grand little things now!

Thanks Luke, nice to see some positive feedback! I know a lot of DJs buy the most advanced headphones they can get, but I just tend to use them for cueing up a long mix on DVD that I play on my portable DVD player! Then go to the bar/jacks/smoke!

For some reason when I printed out the playlist with nero, it showed up different when I play it!? Must go through them and make up new track lists sometime.

I got a pair of these today http://tinyurl.com/5qw4eb only €20 from Peats! Sorted!

Sennheiser all the way, and the proper pricey ones are made in Ireland too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,188 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Which models? I won't use anything thats not a HD-series, and they're far from easily damaged. I managed to rip the audio socket off a cheap laptop with a HD205 and its plug barely bent!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Funny enough those Sony headphones mentioned are hte first ones I have ever had, they lasted me 2 years before the side clip broke lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 52 ✭✭Luke! Broughan

hey Dj spider, you got a great pair of headphones there, hope you enjoy em.i know exactly what kinda use you are looking to get out of em.

in response to Neon circles....true that.

my sony's lasted me about 3 years, then they snapped,at edge or sumthin.probably wouldve lasted longer if i took better care, but for 20 euro you cant go wrong.

ha ha,i love discusssing dj stuff.cant get enough of it.

you can deffo mix without headphones aslong as you know your tracks and cue points ect!

nothing compares to bose and skullcandy expensive but worth every penny

Pioneer HDJ1000 are a fine set of headphones, have a set going on 5 years now. Weak point is the silver finish flakes off and the cable has known to give (Mine has yet). Pricy but are an excellent headphone, also look the part and are very comfortable. Anything under e20 would be only suitable for a walkmann or the bed room DJ.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 52 ✭✭Luke! Broughan

    yeah.......

i was watching a dj play once and he was using Hi-Fi headphones..

bad idea,i cant stand Hi FI headphones, its like wearing a empty tinned pea can's,the sound is dire.

I bought some Sennheiser EH2200's about 5 years ago and still have them, love them. Not designed for Dj's specifically, more for studio work, but out of all other headphones I've tried I still like thee the best.

Its really worth getting good ones mate.... wait a few weeks and don't drink as many pints... money well better spend on good cans

As discussed on another thread, beware of the fakes!!

You will recognize the spin offs by the black hinges and poorer finish. I would pay the extra and buy them over the counter or from a good online source.

The top range of Sennhesier aren't bad, The moulded parts for these headphones are made by Technicast in the Gort Road industrial estate in Ennis, so if you break something you know where to go!! .

Have my mind set on the Pioneers for quiet some time now and buying them for what the proper retail price through Juno.co.uk whilst picking up some records.

Couldn't find them photo's of the fakes I was mentioning in the other tread but yeah, there's a few ways of ways of telling the difference alright. Only thing is that if you going by ebay, realistically a poor picture of what your supposedly bidding for ain't gonna help or the fact that some may just stick up pictures of the real ones anyway.

Well I'm just looking forward to getting mine in the near future anyway.

Many posters on Ebay are chancing their arm by using photos of the original. If anyone is stung they automatically have a case for a full refund. The fakes are supposingly crap, from finish to sound quality, and dont have the mono/stereo switch.
