Ok, Since speaking with eircom and trying to get my case accross which i did after several attempts i in the end spoke with a very helpfull Dublin lady who said she would order some more checks on my line/number from the exchange.

As of 5mins ago i enterted my number on eircoms line checher and get the following reading..

    broadband line check results

We have completed our line suitability checks and your line(s) is suitable for eircom broadband.

Next, simply select your preferred line for broadband service and click the 'Continue' button.

Lines that are broadband capable (please select one):
    Line Result Order
***-******* May be suitable; subject to confirmation

Please select a line to continue

Now i haven't called yet as i wanted to check with you guys as the line "May be suitable; subject to confirmation" is keeping me from jumping about like an idiot. I've also tested with BT and it passes but not on the voda and gov.ie websites, another reason for not jumping about is i tested the numbers to the left of me and they still fail and plus my phone is not working at the moment, stiil damaged from the storms i guess.

But all things considered, how do you think things are looking for me?

Congratulations, your line is suitable. (Irishbroadband)
Congratulations, your line is suitable. (Perlico)
Yes, you can avail of Broadband on your line (BT)

Up till now these were always a Fail.

This is geting to good to be true, proper internet access over copper after 10yrs or more and i might just be able, if this is a joke or a mistake somebody may die.
My phone is still not working though, maybe the've done something and im geting false readings? God i hope not.

The "May be suitable; subject to confirmation" result means they will give you BB on a 'best effort' basis. That means an engineer will have to check your line and sort any faults that may be present. You should be fine.
The other isps only show pass or fail, no in between like Eircom.

Order BB from Eircom initially to get the line up and running then after 6 months you can change to who ever you like.

Thanks for that kaizersoze, means a lot to me to hear something positive. Do you think something was done at the exchange on my line to change the fail results?
This is gona sound silly but if eircom can do it for me i'll take back most of what i've said about them over the years and if i was happy with what they can give me i'll spend my money with them.

The fault could be anything and it could be nothing. It may be something in your house or you could just have a long line thats giving borderline test results.

Ok, I've called 1800503303 and they said that my line is showing up as Amber which is good and that at the moment i can avail of a 1mb package and if when i get my modem and the green light stays on and i know for certain that i can get bb i may be able to upgrade to a 2 or maybe even a 3 meg package.

I can't belive this:) that said i won't know for sure till i get the modem and plug it in, its gona be a logn 5 to 10 working days, Fingers crossed.

P.s. Do you guys think its safe to tell my family yet? And what are the pings like with that package as there would be quiet a bit of gaming done on that line.

Can anyone tell me, does an amber line involve the use of DSL repeaters or anything like that??

I know engineers/linesmen will rectify some faults on the line to improve it, but how do they overcome the sheer distance of some lines??

Btw I've seen digiweb giving a result of "an engineer visit may be required". Or maybe it was BT. It was definetely at least one of the two.
