I'm an engineering student and I'm thinking of buying a dell laptop to help my studies. Is there anyway to get the VAT back from that? It'd be great if I could because its a lot of money!

Might be better off posting this on one of the money/finance boards.

Most likely not unless you own a business of course.:)

I really don't think so but see if you can find your machine on dell.ie/epp (enter NUIG if prompted) and keep an eye on this thread for offers.

Yay, I think I found a way to save! My gfs father has a company through which I'm going to buy the laptop. Companies don't pay VAT so that 21% off right?

no they pay vat. they can just write it off at the end of the year when doing the taxes up. Dell still have to receive the full amount.

not directly. the business gets it back in the form of a tax deduction iirc. so if you agree it with yer wan's father he'll give it back i'm sure...
