    Hello,

My little brother has been job hunting for the last 3weeks and he can't find anything!
I looked at his CV lastnight and it was a mess, edited the whole lot for him. I am sending him money every month and tbh i don't want to but he has rent and bills etc.
He just finished his first yr in Engineering and his results are very good(5 B's)
Anyone know of any jobs in London...

Is it a professional type job he wants or just something to pay the rent until something better comes along? Also which part of London?

Something to pay the rent, he applied for an internship in Shell but they were taking second/third year students.
He is back in University in October.
He's in SE London, he should be able to take the train anywhere though

If he's interested in bar/waiting work a LOT of places around Chiswick High road, Gunnersbury and Richmond are looking for staff. Also:

Actually i've seen quite a few on Acton high street last weekend too.

Not great money but it would get him by. What does he do in college, if it's technical and he's willing to work hard for a couple of months i'll look at his CV. I'm back and forth quite a lot but could pass it on if it's relevant.

London can be a slow place to job hunt. Last time I lived there in 2001-2 it took me 13 weeks to get any work with a good CV and solid experience. Once the 13 weeks were up, however, offers continued to roll in after I took up the initial job. You have to allow for the normal delays in the recruiting process, he will realistically take anything up to another 2 months to get work, plus any extra time allowing for age.

I would really question though why he arrived in London without a couple of months money to support himself in the event of not getting a job on day one. Few people do. Even participants in highly skilled migration programmes on average take several months to get their first job, and these are not 18 year olds with little experience and probably zero in terms of qualificiations.

My brother is in University, my parents pay his fees and i pay accomodation and pocket money(mostly pocket money)

I would continue to support him but he has to work and earn his own money. He has 4 months holiday and should work while on holiday...
I posted here if anyone knows of any recruiters or anything available

maybe reduce the funds coming his way to provide only very basic rations...may give him the kick to 'look' a little harder :-)

....just thinking about my sister - if I financially provided the way you do I think she would definately take her time searching for the job as no real pressure ....and at that age I reckon she might take advantage of the situation......I'm not suggesting that is the case for you but just giving you an alternative potential situation that could arise if you make it too easy :-)

If he signs up at a temp agency he shouldnt have any problems. Lots of unskilled jobs in London. Either he's not looking hard enough or he's taking advantage. Get him into the business areas (West end area and the city)

London is a very expensive place to be doing nothing. I worked there last summer and rent is even a killer when you are working.

If he cant get work I would suggest he moves somewhere with cheaper rent. (Which is most of the rest of the world)
