Is BCC HD / ITV HD available on Sky HD box or does it need to be setup via "other Channels". If it is through "other channels" does anyone know if sky or BBC plan to make it available as a channel ?

ITV HD is only avialable via Freesat and even then it's interactive. You'ill find the tuning information in one of the stickies in this forum for BBC HD.

Is Channel 4 HD available on the Sky HD EPG? or can it be added via other channels?

If you have to add BBC HD and C4 HD via other channels, do they provide a HD quality picture or is it downscaled to SD? I saw this mentioned as a possibility in an old thread but no definitive answer was given.

    Thanks.

Getting those channels via the "other channels" doesnt effect the quality, they still come in HD.

c4HD cannot be added to other channels due to the freqency used if I recall from previous discussions. SKy maintain that bbc will not pay to put bbcHD on the irish epg or bbc3 etc but if you ask c4 or bbc they will say it is the opposite.
on the matter of quality, i saw discovery HD in one of the shopping center stands that sky have and to be honest I didnt notice any difference or little enough to encourage me to pay 15euro a month extra. it was a 32 inch tv though and some point out that you really need around 50 inches to get the benifit of it.

So in Ireland for €15 a month we get (correct me if I am wrong):

    Sky One HD
    History HD
    Discovery HD
    FX HD
    Sky Arts HD
    Nat Geo HD
    Rush HD

Plus a few movie and sport channels (if you take those packages)

And BBC HD via other channels so you can't record it.

And presumably most of the content on those channels is actually SD with a few HD programs thrown in.

Defo not worth €15 a month plus all the setup charges. May reconsider at a later time when more HD channels/content available here but for now it strikes me as a rip-off.

You do'nt have to pay for BBC HD. But I agree it is very expensive. My sister has HD and has given up the HD subscription and can only get BBC HD, even though she pays for sports and movies. I think you should get it free if you have a full subscription.

I would be very interested to know the percentage of HD programming on these channels. Finding it hard to tell though. Was just scanning thru DigiGuide there to see if it could tell me but some 13 year old shows (JAG episodes from 1995) are marked as HD...I don't think so.

You used to have to pay for SKY+ unless you took movies or sports. Maybe they should do something similar for HD. I assume they will eventually remove the extra chanrge like they did with SKY+ but it is a long way away I guess.

It is completely possible for a 13 year old show, or even a 50 year old movie to be in HD.

Must movies filmed in 35mm are actually at a far higher resolution then HD, the only question is if they have actually been transferred to a HD resolution or not.

Now I don't know if JAG is or isn't, but you certainly can't tell by how old it is.

Indeed. The original series of Star Trek was released on HD DVD as it was filmed on 35mm film.
