I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there's any real advantage of wearing boxing boots over a decent pair of runners in the ring? Also does anyone know if they see them anywhere in Dublin city center?

I would imagine there is a significant advantage yea.

I only train, never boxed for a club or anything like that, but have recently got more into weight lifting. For this I was advised to get a pair of converse, which are flat soled - no cushioning. The idea is that if you are driving weight up off the floor, you don't want to have to push through the cushioning in modern sports runners first.

I've started wearing these converse while hitting the heavy bag, and I've noticed a difference. You can get more power behind the shots, if your feet are secure.

Converse would be similar enough to a boxing runner, in that they are flat soled with no cushioning under the feet, and also tie up above the ankle.

On where to buy them - I'd say the shop on Capel Street / Mary Street corner might have them, if not Mick Dowling's in Terenure definitely would
