Some questions about joining the RDF

Right, so I've been thinking about joining on and off for the past few years. But I have a few questions. (possible with obvious answers)

I am 19, student in UCD. My hometown is in Mayo

From what I can tell the best unit for me would be the 62 Infantry Battalion, B or D Company.

Other than location etc, what is the difference between them? Does it matter which one I join in terms of what they do etc?

As I am a member of a political party, will I have to cancel my membership to join the RDF or is that just for the PDF?

As a student I have exams and traveling down home from time to time, this might results in missing some training. How big of a problem would this be?

Finally, what is it like being in the RDF? What can I expect when I join and what is expected of me?

I'm sure you are sick of such questions so forgive me for asking!

No difference whatsoever, except one may have more personnel than the other.

That is fine,as long as you never wear your future uniform to a political event/meeting/protest.Also,you can't be a member of any secret societies such as SF/IRA etc, goes without saying really!!

As long as your not missing for weeks at a time, that should be ok.But you'll benefit from attending every night you can!
Finally, what is it like being in the RDF? What can I expect when I join and what is expected of me?
For that my friend, trawl through the countless other threads!:D

    http://www.62infantry.com

    http://military.ie/reserves/locator

You can look at att the units around the country on the locator, and the 62 Reserve unofficial website gives info also.
