Can anyone tell me what this means in the context of exam results?

My friend passed everything apart from one exam in which he got 26 and in his results it says Exempt 8.

Any light shed on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I'm presuming he did 9 subjects overall? If so,'Exempt 8' means he is exempt from 8 repeats (as he passed these already). It just means he has to repeat the one he failed.

Interesting! I guess that makes sense, it would be great to get a second opinion if anyone can confirm this for me, thanks for your help anyway Filo

It means he is to be excluded from college for eight years due to his poor result.
