    I don't know anybody who works for the Herald but my guess is that picture is a case of a private joke on behalf of the subs/layout people just to embarrass their colleague.

    "Oh look, we have a picture of the minister with her in the background having a bad hair day. Let's stick it in the paper for a giggle!"

    I hate those celebrity pictures of "Me with my famous interviewee" that the Sindo loves to produce. Typically involving the decidedly unphotogenic Barry Egan, or previously the rather more photogenic but disgustingly simpering Gayle Killilea.

    But I don't think the example you posted is a case like that.

    I hate those pics too, but I agree with Snickers Man there is more to this than the Herald doing a "Barry Egan" on it.

    The herald are running a campaign over the M50 toll. That journalist in the pic doorstepped Dempsey a couple of months ago and "forced" him to take a box of letters from irate Herald readers on the subject.

    The headline was that Dempsey was trying to avoid them... Quite a funny story with the pics of Dempsey trying to get away from them before agreeing to take the box and pose for a pic.

    They should have mentioned that in the piece linked above for a bit of context!
