    Hi All ,
Does any look back on any old running logs / Diary. I used to keep one when i was runnning in Schools and recorded most my sessions. Came across one there last night. Found a session i did back in october 1996 (4 X 1500m 5.01 , 5.04 , 5.04 , 5.08.. with 2 min recovery) to even think of that not would be crazy for me... makes me sick to look at my log from this year..

The only hop i have is i neve was a natural runner so it was all ahrd work for me even back then, so i think i have some hope of getting back in a year or 2.

But have to say i'm loving running as much now as i did then.

Something for you to aspire to, Back in 2002 I ran 5:15 mile, and one of the reasons it took me so long to get back into it was because I never thought I could get back to that standard, but I copped myself on, Im only 29 and I reckon by this time next year I'll be damn close, best of luck with your training.

yeh unfortunately busy with work - still running most days but I havent been down to the track in a week or two - just doing my usual 5k but keeping a good pace. Had started doing some 800m runs and had gotten that to the 2:12-2:20 point so I'll start that again prob from next week. I watched some 800m stuff on tv and that was a real kick in the nuts! But still no sign of the 4-min-something mile but my confidence remains intact!!

You mentioned there about not being a natural runner - I'm exactly like that. At a full sprint I'm very comfortable and apparently I look so - but when I'm running for distance - I feel like I'm not efficient. Even last night I was behind some guys and it looked like they were barely moving their legs - and they were easing away from me. I on the other hand felt like I was putting in a lot of effort.. At some point I will prob have to address this.

    For now, its Tag-Rugby season...

I'm actually reading a boak at the moment called strong running, its got some good information about stride, but for the most part they are says that you don't need to change your stride just adjust your natural stride to save energy.. Its funny you willl see ever shap and size running.. great sport for that

You must have been fairly competitive at schools level with sessions like that? What are your 3k/5k pbs? If you were in school in 1996, you're not too old to get yourself back to that level...

PB for 3 k was 9:42 , but think i broek that once but didnt have it recorded. 1500m was about 4:25 i think and 800m was 2.04 . Uused to break 30 for 5 mile in training easy but never races it.. PB is a slow 31 mins.. but what i wouldnt give to do that now.

Ps i'm joining tallagh next week it think, or ranhney

Well that 4 x 1500m session to me looks like you were capable of faster (or else you might have just had really good endurance and would have done a very good 5k or 10k). Also, it all depends on how hard you were going, but being able to break 30min for 5 miles in training easily suggests you were in great shape.

In my opinion, it is unlikely you're body was developed to it's full potential while you were still in school. So, all the best with joining a club, looks to me like there's still time to bring down all of those PBs as long as you lose the extra weight.

Yep i never raced well at all in school maybe a 4th 5th in leinster cross country would have been about the best.

only thing i ever was was a noth dublin CC , but none of the godo guys from dublin were running in that.

My coach said my pb for 1500m should have been in the 4:05 to 4:10 range . Stamina was never a problem . I think i tended to give up once i was dropped by the top 3 in a race.

As for the weight, i'm now on a major diet, well not reducing food actually eating more at the right times now, So i would say in 6 months time i hope to be at least half way there.
