iTunes is (not) the bomb!

You have to love user agreements! From here.
One of favorite random sites to read is Freakonomics. There is always something that I never thought of before on there, and today was no exception. They pointed out a clause in the iTunes license agreement that puts a damper on weekend plans. It says that you can’t use iTunes for anything illegal:

"…including, without limitation, the development, design, manufacture, or production of nuclear missiles or chemical or biological weapons."

I don’t really know how anyone would use iTunes to make a bomb. Maybe this means that you can’t listen to iTunes while you are making it. That makes sense.

The other warning they pointed out is that you can’t use iTunes in any system that is used to keep people from dying:

"The Apple software is not intended for use in the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems, life support machines, or other equipment in which the failure of the Apple software could lead to death, personal injury, or severe physical or environmental damage."

This is understandable because you wouldn’t want to have iTunes crash your life-support system and cause something to happen. I would be furious at the person who was rocking out to iTunes on the computer that was controlling a loved one’s life support equipment.

Isn't this protecting themselves from law suits.

Lets just say somebody gains access to your Itunes and manages to use some security flaws in it to gain access to your computer. Not completely unreasonable considering iTunes tries to gain access to the internet and also allows for the sharing of libaries over a network. Aslo places like this could have secure or classified audio video files and Apple doesn't want to be help responsable for these.

This is stop companies/goverments turning around and blaming Apple for not providing a secure application.

I realise you posted this as a joke, and I know its sounds like a crazy clause, but it could actually by fairly standard. I dont read alot of those terms and conditions.

I don't know about you but I always use iTunes when making bombs and commiting any kind of crimes.

Does this mean I should probably uninstall it from the CERN Large Hadron Collider then?

Anyone want to come on and talk about how to make an atom bomb next week?

Nothing from WipeOut can be considered bad.

Ever notice in the movies, that when bad guys use computers for bad stuff including remote detonation of bombs, they use windows based laptops or PC's. However most family or office units in movies are macs!

For the exact same reason that Apple laptops are so recognisable - The Steve would be pissed if his machines were used for global domination!

    ...oh wait :pac:

What about when they clearly have a Mac, but the Apple logo is covered up with a big sticker?

Don't forget that PowerBooks can disable Alien computers with a virus, wouldn't see Windows being able to do that - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116629/
