Can anyone shed some light on Buying a D-SLR in Thailand, I'm heading over for a few weeks on the way to Australia and I figure seeing as I'm starting my travels, no better time to get back in to talking some photos(which i've seemed to neglect lately).

Anyway my question is basically is it ok to buy in Thailand?, I know its alot cheaper but is it worth the risk for warrenty and stuff, and is there anything else i should look out for if I do decide to buy in Thailand!!!

Also stopping off in Singapore but If I'm buying in Asia I'd like to have it in Thailand!!!

    Any help appreciated Cheers

I know lads that have bought €0000's worth of gear in Bangkok. They didn't have problems.

Depends on your circumstances as regards the warranties to be truthful.

And if it's your first DSLR then that raises other questions too. What do you like to photograph, what lenses are you considering buying and why, what's your budget etc.

Thats good to hear. Well yeah its my first D-SLR, I've wanted a 400D for ages now. was gonna just get it with a kit lens, but if i see some deals with others, i might, i'll see. Not gonna go mad though just the camera really and one lens to start with!! My budget is around 600-700 euro, don't want to go much more over that seeing as I need to save some cash until i get work in Australia!!

Was also thinking of the Nikon D40x.

You could try MBK shopping mall. I forget the name of the shop. But it's on the ground floor, up beside Kentucky fried chicken. A small but very reputable camera shop. I've got gear from them a few times in the past and they were fine. I was there last August when they took delivery of their first 40Ds and they were selling them for €900. You can get it cheaper now. But a good price back then.

Best of luck with it and your travels. :)

I think that shop in the MBK is gone, it was there in September when I wish I had picked up the water housing unit for my G7 but was no where to be found at the end of november when I was back...could be mistaken due the the hallucinogenic affect of walking around MBK for a few hours though

I hope thats not true. Though it is easy to find. Being on the ground floor.

I do not know much about Camera prices in BKK, but have heard that Singapore used to be better value, though this may have changed recently. It's been a few years since I was there but found the prices were much the same as in Australia (where I am from)

In Australia I have used Discount Digital Photographics & found them to be really helpful & have great prices. I was back there in Feburary & got myself a Sigma 10-20mm with Hoya UV &CPL filters, SB600 Flash, Camera Armour, Spare Battery (for a D80) & a Remote Flash Lead for about €1000 when I took the Tax off.

I'll be hitting Kuala Lampur in Malaysia, and possible Singapore for a few days in August. Any good photo deals to be gotten there?

After a bit of a search on the web I found a site with a price quote for the 450D,(with Kit Lens), 27900 Thai baht which is under €550 thats a super saving from like €799 in conns :) Does that sound about right to anybody who has bought cameras in Thailand before.

Me likes the 450D if i see it at that price over there I'm thinking Yoink... I'll snap it up fast!!!!
