Aer Arann and Aer Lingus have signed an agreement which will allow customers to directly connect to Aer Lingus transatlantic services from Cork Airport.
The airlines say that, from today, bookings can be made on aerlingus.com directly both to and from Cork to all seven Aer Lingus US destinations in one single booking transaction.

Customers will be able to check in at Cork Airport, check luggage directly to their final destination in the USA and transfer to their flight at Dublin airport.
The new arrangement is also available for customers travelling from the US connecting to Cork airport.

Okay so its no exactly what it sounds like but it will probably take off! Nothing on Aerlingus.com yet though.
As someone who regularly flies to the US it will have its advantages, even though Dublin is troublesome. I can see it being popular with people from Kerry and West Cork as it can be over 130miles from some parts to Shannon. However Shannon will take a beating from it, Aer Arran must be delighted, Aer Lingus are genuinely showing some good ideas with this and the Jet Blue linkup, and apparently they are planning some sort of deal with United also.

Basically good news for Cork, bad for Shannon, I wonder if Cork can ever attract the direct service to the US it is so badly craves. The last attempt in 2005 was abandoned before it began.

Changing the title to be a little more accurate. It's a good move, and I'm surprised they didn't do this before.

The United deal is just replacing their deal with American which is coming to an end in November (when United starts). The JetBlue link is good, but a tad odd.

I doubt Cork, for various reasons, will see a direct service anytime soon.

Does that mean if you are booked right through, that your baggage allowance on Aer Arann will be increased?
