Ampeg 115 Bass Cab New(Buzz) is speaker gone ?

    Hello All,

    Just got my brand new ampeg 115 bass cab, pluged it in and right from the off theres a buzz when i play any thing from A to E.
    Any other notes are perfect !!!.
    So the question is... is there something lose or is the speaker cone gone ?

    Got it from Dolphin Music this morning.

    The grille might be loose? Push against it (gently ;) ) while you play those notes.

    I'll give it a go now.

    Just gave it a go, no joy.
    The buzz gets worse when I play louder at lower frequency, and tried holding the grille.
    The buzz comes from somewhere around the area the cone joins the magnet.
    Maybe it got a knock in transit, but there is no marks on the casing.

    If it turns out you have to return it Dolphin Music have an excellent ( at least in my experience) customer service. I bought an amp from them which was faulty. I had returned the faulty one and received a replacement within a fortnight. They even rang me to check if it had arrived and if I was happy with the new one. Not many online stores like that.

    I'd give them a ring then. Best to do it as soon as possible (tomorrow). Hopefully they'll sort it out for ya. :)

    It arrived at 10.25, by 10.50 I was on to their support and they are contacting Mackie tech support. But I'll be chasing them up first thing tomorrow morning, a few gigs in two weeks time.

    Dolphin are very good to deal with!
    I sent the orginal bas cab back on Tuesday and they sent out a replacement the same day. I go it today, BUT this one does not have a buzz like the last one, but there is something wrong.


    There is a noise from the lower end of the cab when I play loud with plenty of bass end.
    I think its the cab more than the speaker, I'll keep messing with it until I get it sorted.

    Anyone have one of these Ampeg 115e cabs ? I see it was made in China.

    I've heard a lot of bad reports about their QC since they moved production to China. Try talkbass.com, there should be plenty of threads there, you should be able to find something.

    Yup ampeg have gone downhill for a while now alright!!!
