US phone and data package

Guy's I'm going to be in the States for 8 weeks so I'd like to have a US number and a data package if possible while over there. I have an unlocked SE w810i and a TyTn II so I probably won't buy a phone unless I have too (I think both of these phones should work okay).

    Have you any recommendations?

I don't expect to be making many calls - mainly sending texts and using the data package.

Right now I was leaning towards this...

Has anyone got any experience of using PAYG data bundles in the States?

    Cheers

I don't know if many people will be interested in how I got on with this but I'm just posting a brief summary of the solution I arrived it. It may prove useful to those travelling in the States in the next year.

I signed up for a t-mobile family basic plan on a month by month basis. Cost $60 a month for 700 minutes a month. Plus 2 Sim cards $10 and a setup free of $ 10.
I can let this lapse at no cost anytime.

I then got a total internet add-on for $20 a month which allows me access all t-mobile wifi hotspots (they are in Starbucks etc.) and unlimited GPRS access on my phone.

Now for the brag bit... I'm Currently using the GPS on the phone for directions to San Diego whilst also using a bluetooth PAN to access the net on my tablet while the Missus is driving!! Get In!:D

I expect the total cost of this solution to be $180 for 2 months.

What kind of registration (if any) did you have to go through? Most operators in the U.S. needs socail security numbers, U.S. home addresses even for pay as you go stuff.
