Cleaning up a Photo

    Hi,

I've been given a print to scan and make duplicates. However its in a terrible state, its got big dirty handprints on a number of places. Otherwise the quality of the print is quite good.
I'm looking for some advise on what to use to clean it. My main concern is that by cleaning I don't effect the quality of the print so I thought I'd throw it out there for ideas. Any advise appreciated.

I would scan it first and then attempt to clean it just in case

Whats your scanner, does it have any clean-up software? If you have something which has a cloning tool like Paintshop Pro you can replace imperfections. I suspect finger prints will be hard to vanish away.

You should be able to use the clone and healing tools in PS - its surprising what you can remove...

PM if you're stuck. I'm bored anyway :)

Well the consenus is definitely to scan first and try and clean up via PP. I have CS3 so I'll give that a go. Makes sense to have a scanned copy first anyway. Still wondering if there's something I could use to clean up the print!

Thanks for the advise :) & the offer of help Sinead, I'll give it a go and will let you know how I get on.

You could take the lazy way out and give Gunns a call, maybe they know something? If its just surface dirt there might be a way to remove it alright. I'd be scanning and going the photoshop way myself though..
