Hydrogen question

I know its very unstable and has many issues so I was just wondering.

Will there ever be a chance Hydrogen could be used for a power station rather than a car. Surely a power station would have much more controlled environments and in terms of development time line a power station would be created a lot sooner.

I know some people might advocate electricity created on a small scale is preferable due to the loss of energy in a large grid. I have some questions on that too.

Surely there is massive amounts of energy used in the creation and transport of such items with the energy return over a long period compared to centralised loss. Because at the moment at least 80% of our energy is fossil based then its good to have clean energy produced at home but if we produced clean centralised energy then it would not be necessary.

    Just wondering, not arguing.

Hydrogen is put forward as a fuel substitute because it is somewhat portable and so suitable for use in vehicles. A vast amount of energy is needed to produce the hydrogen. This energy would come from a power station and wouldn't make any sense to produce it just to burn it in another station unless the energy to make it came from a renewable source like wind or wave where the hydrogen would act as an energy store or battery.
