When is a car deemed classic? does it matter on the make and model. Hoping to bring a 1987 mr2 over from the uk. can anyone tell me what is involved with registering it here, and what would the costs be?
    thanks

Not classed a classic I'm afraid..

www.revenue.ie have an online VRT calculator but it is only an estimate.

You'll be able to get classic insurance but that's about it - need to be over 30 years to qualify for vintage tax and NCT exemption

    <housekeeping>
This is coming up far too often, we should really have a sticky with a single post summarising:

    Classic Road Tax
    Classic VRT
and a bit about insurance ( as its not as cut and dry)

I agre with Mustang - we could do a lot of housekeeping and make the stickies more useful and relevant as well as covering teh FAQ of classics in Ireland - in fact maybe an FAQ stickie is what we need?

    So maybe:
    1. Merge the two photo threads - abandoned or not it's a classic car photo so why have two threads?
    2. Suppliers / Clubs and Misc could all go into a general Useful & Interesting Links and Resources stickie
    3. Add an FAQ stickie covering classic car age, general insurance requirments, VRT & NVT issues and teh like

That would take us from 7 "general" stickies down to 3 while still covering all the needs.

In the links stickie we could maintain an "index" of sorts on teh front page, with two or three category posts maintained by mods that pull together links by category. The Marathon forum has a similar idea, see here. We could have a post on the first page for club links for example and once a month or whatever it's edited to pull in all themost recent links and kill dead ones, as reported in the thread.

    Ah..the whats a classic,whats not a classic debate again...

    That's why I avoid the "C" word.

I'd rather go with FIVA's "historic" meaning anything over 25 years old.

Its probably the best way, though i know theres lads out there that will argue till they explode that a MK1 MR2 is a classic.....
