DiSEqC Switch Warning

Hello, Just a warning to any newbies like myself. I setup 2 LNBs feeding into a 4 -1 DiSEqC Switch and sent the signal to the TV, all was great. But since all of my LNBs are Dual LNBs I got a 2nd 4 -1 DiSEqC Switch for the 2nd TV, unfortunately I had one dodgy cable and when I started trouble-shooting to find the bad cable all of my troubles began Unbeknownst to me DiSEqC Switches are very sensitive and you need to power off your set top box at the power before working with them. The end result is both of my DiSEqC switches are now useless and I doubt there's anything I can do now to try and recover them. I know this warning is obvious to most and I know all the instructions say to poweroff the box before wiring, but just a final warning, maybe I can save someone from repeating my mistake.

Applies to LNBs & Motors too.
Unplug the Satellite receiver from mains and then disconnect LNB cable. connect LNB cable at box and re-apply mains when all outdoor cables connected.

Thanks for the warning Bozacke - I didn't know that! You'll probably save quite a few people a lot of grief.

    Hi Watty,

Thanks for that too. I don't have a motor, but I didn't know you could damage the LNBs too. I know all the directions say to power off first, but I've disconnected and reconnected the wired loads of times and never damaged the LNBs, perhaps they are a little more robust than the DiSEqC switches and maybe I've just been lucky.

Although rare, it can also kill the tuner in a receiver, if you short the wires.
