Ok i am fed up of the pub and the cinema. and quite frankly the gf is too.

i have been doing this for years and i do it out of habit. i need a change.

places to go , places to see and things to do. would be much appreciated. there has to be more to this country than drink and cinema.

Comedy clubs are usually good, there are a good few of them in the city these days. Different line-ups most weeks so it's something you can do every couple of weeks without too much risk of seeing the same thing over and over. There's a few theatres about too that put on some good shows

    Zoo
    Wicklow mountains
    Newgrange

Pretend to be a tourist for a day, get a map from the tourist info and walk around and see the city with new eyes.

Theatre? Some of it is good.

Cheapo comedy nights in the Ha-penny Bridge Inn. Singer-Songwriter nights in the International. Speaking Irish in Conradh na Gaeilge, if that's still going.

Evenings are always going to be pub-heavy. If you can get into town in the daytime there are a lot of galleries and museums worth seeing.

That's a great, great idea. I took one of those open-top bus tours once. It was stupid fun, which I expected, but I also learned stuff about the city. That may be because I started off ignorant, but even so. There's a lot of tourist stuff that is very good.

Have you done the 1916 Walking Tour? I've taken visitors on that a few times, and the guides are excellent.

    I second the theatre.

For some reason alot of people equate the theatre with the upper classes.

But it's there for everyone to enjoy. And enjoy it they can. Get a good play and it's even better than going to the cinema (which i also love doing).

OP, the Gate Theatre on Fredrick st (end of O'Connell st, up the hill on the left) is particularly good. Not sure if they have something on at moment but think their website is gatetheatre.ie

    Enjoy.

    Go see a play
Go out to Howth for a long walk and fresh fish and chips
Go for a lake drive around blessington lakes
    Bowling
Roller blading along the seafront in Clontarf;)
Comedy night in the Bankers Pub on friday nite, hilarious:)
Go to a concert, lots of good ones coming up this summer

Get a nice tent (or a small caravan) and go camping at the weekend. Planning during the week makes it fun, it's then a continuous adventure which is still quite affordable! :-)

I can also recommend the Zozimus tours (check spelling)

It's a walking tour with the stories of Dublin attched, very good fun if you can get a group together.

There's also the Ghost Bus which is great fun.

The literary tour is good too I hear.

If you're into history, the museums are mostly all free too

+1 for the Zozimus tour. did it a couple of years ago with a group and it was great fun. It's bassed around Dublin Castle / Christchurch so not too far from the Guiness Storehouse if you want to head out that way.

The Literary tour is ok, a bit short. But you get a couple of "pitstops" on the way :D. had people over from Oz last year and brought them on it. They loved it.

Haven't been on the ghost bus so can't say what that's like.

I third the Theater. As someone suggested pretend to be a tourist. Can be great craic :) Whole lot of Dublin out there. I even enjoy wandering around the IFSC on the odd Sunday :)

The Ghost Bus was great! The guide was really into it.I laughed an awful lot.

There's a boat tour of Dublin Bay that goes around Howth. Or there's that Viking Splash tour thingy.

Go to one of the many parks. Malahide has the toy train museum there.

Walking in the Dublin Mountains would be really nice - around Glendalough.

I presume you mean the Wicklow Mountains.

I presume you mean the Wicklow Mountains.

Haha, but I second the walks, hills or otherwise. Pack a picnic and make a day of it. Good healthy fun. Could tie it in with a nice long drive. Maybe even make an over-nighter of it.

+1 for the Bankers on Friday.
Do the Bray to Greystones walk.
Go to Glendalough for the day.
Have you tried the Guinness Brewery (you don't have to drink).
Try Scuba diving - plenty of clubs around.

I would second the Ghost bus it was really good:D

The ghost bus tour was excellent, only thing I would say is that if you wait until you have visitors to do it then make sure they have really good english as it is hard to follow if the auld english isn't up to scratch!!

You could go skiing on the dry slopes in Kilternan, or all the hill-walking stuff that other people have suggested...also because it is the summer there is a fair amount of stuff on around the city in the various parks - check out dublin city council's website for upcoming events. Also check out www.dublindocklands.ie for any happenings in the IFSC area.

There is also the horse show on this week in the RDS which is fairly reasonably priced and as far as I know there are tickets still available.

A day at the races in Leopardstown (can even get the LUAS from town to it) or if you are willing to go further afield ferryhouse or punchestown.

A walk on Sandymount Stand can be nice followed by a bite to eat in one of the cafes around the green. Or bull island is great for walks.

I know technically its the cinema but try going to the IFI or something for a change rather than the mainstream ones.

Culture night is coming up soon in Dublin where all the museums etc around the city open up for the evening - I went into it last year and was great fun, we went into Christchurch and because it was late enough when we got in there it was starting to get dark so it added to the atmosphere - you don't get that visiting in the day!!

That is all I can think of off the top of my head, but that is what I love about this city there is loads to do!!

you're really really lucky to live in Dublin and I can't understand how you have this problem! :P I live in more or less the bum hole of nowhere and the pub or cinema are really the only options short of jumping in a car and driving to somewhere exciting!

This sounds more like you have no goal set in your life, I went through a phase of this, I find that if you don't have something to look forward to life can drag on and seem repetitive, If you have a goal then you will start to look forward to things more. Start small and look forward to doing something next week and then plan more into the future like planning some trip or something bigger like a trip abroad. If your fed up of the gf then you should tell her how you feel bout things and see if she shares your same interests, more than likely she needs to have something to look forward to too. For example me and my gf are planning to move to Oz for a year. so the crappy job I'm in doesn't matter too much because I'm looking forward to something and i'm planning it, in the short term i'm planning something to do for next week, small steps to make a big difference
