your damaged nails will just have to grow out, no nail hardener is gonna help ya in my opinion. i think nail hardener is only good for normal nails to make them bit stonger, but not for the ones thats been filed away

The only one Ive found to work is mavala nail strengthner (you can get it on strawberrynet). Its quite liquidy and sinks into the nail, not like the usual nail varnish, and you only use it on the tips. Great stuff, check reviews on makeupalley!

The top drawer of my dressing table is full of bottles claiming to give you strong nails in 10 days, teflon strong nails, long strong nails.........and NONE of them work for me. As Idunnoutellme says, you have to wait for the damaged nails to grow out. What does help though is a really good hand and nail cream(like Clarins) and a cuticle oil. Use these several times a day, massaging well into your nails and you will see a difference.

I removed my Acryllic Nails about two months ago. I started using Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus, it is a nail protein designed specifically for former acryllic and Gel wearers. I am now boasting a set of fab long hard nails, my own. My nails before acryllics never grew, they were soft and would split. I heard of Nailtiques first in America but picked it up in a local beauticians in Limerick. There are different formulas depending on how bad your nails are. It's a bit expensive but lasts. Approx €25 for 7.4ml bottle but would last 6-8 months. Also available on ebay.:)

Also heard Brown Thomas Nail Bar are doing a new Nail treatment. It's a polish they put over your own nails and last for upto one month. Apparantly chip and breakage resitant and allows your own nails to grow underneath. Does anyone know the name of the treatment or how good it is.

You could try it from the inside, by taking B vitamins or Perfectil. I definitely noticed a difference within a few weeks, but my nails weren't damaged in the first place...

I have it done!! Nails inc do it, its called "Everlast manicure, the 3 week manicure". It is FANTASTIC. All my life I have had such weak nails, I play piano and they just break constantly! Sick of gel nails, went into Debenhams on Henry Street, Dublin 3 weeks ago, decided to have a go. I cannot epress how AMAZING IT IS. My nails don't grow very fast, they are so strong and long. All my friends have commented how they look!!

I also bought a treatment pack, was 33e its nails inc. treatment pack 4 to strengthen & nourish hard to grow nails on this page http://www.nailsinc.com/diy

Now it costs 70e, but I bought 3 treatments, get 1 free for 200e ish?

    Check it out!!

Its so cool, you can paint over it if you don't like the manicure look. I AM HOOKED!!

My Cousin has just got that Nail Inc. everlast mainicure done aswell, it does look really good. I was very tempted but it does look very similar to a Gel overlay without the nail tip. I'd be afraid that my nails would be just as soft if i stopped getting the everlast manicure. I'd be back where i started. Think i'll stick with the Nailtiques.:D

tbh, those quick solutions never work for me, I go with the vitamins. holland and barrett labels are real easy to read if you don't know the exact name (like me)

Had a look at the nail.inc web-site and this sounds exactly like what I get done, although I would have referred to mine as gel nails - so whats the difference.

By the way, I have extremely soft nails. No way I would be able to grow them to any kind of length as they would just break.

I have been having gel nails done for 3 years by the same fantastic South african therapist. Any time I have had to go somewhere else to get them done I am always so disappointed as they leave them too long, they don't file down the gel and they look as fake as can be.

on the few rare occassions when I've had the nails off when I haven't been able to get an appointment - my own nails have been probably better than before I started getting the gel done.

A few months ago I was wearing stick on nails for a few weeks - not they really made a mess of my nails.

Yep, you've got to be careful with hardeners. Some of them are just too effective and make your nails so hard they almost become brittle.

    RESURRECTION!

So yeah, basically, I, like the OP, want tips to harden up my nails. I was a serious nail biter for most of my life but have for the last year or so managed to keep away from them, due to vanity more than anything!

Anyway, my nails have never been very strong, and I have been looking for ways to harden them up. I am just after buying Mavala nail hardener and have just used it for the second time. I'm wondering has anyone used this and found it good, and how long does it take to see effects?

Also, I was wondering maybe if there is something I should add to my diet, or a supplement I could take to help my nails harden naturally?
