Question - E-mailing a portfolio

    Hi,
I've been asked to send a portfolio of my shots to a magazine that is looking for contributing photographers. I'm not a professional so I don't know what format to do this.
How many photographs would be sufficient, what size should they be e-mailed, do I need to just attach them or should I put them all in one easy to view file like a PDF?
Also in terms of what I say in the mail itself - any suggestions?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

To be fair - ask them what they want. Most would have set criteria and format that they require.

In general, I'd say the images should be jpg, under 500k per image at 300dpi for print.

Ask them what format and how many would suit them best. If you want to work for them, start asking the questions now! :)

Basically, talk about your interests in photography, why you'd enjoy working for the magazine, some goals, etc.

It really does depend on their tone though - Sometimes you can be quite relaxed about what you do and why, and it's appreciated - Other times, it's uptight and formal all the way.

Its for portfolio stuff it wouldn't be set at 300dpi as you are showing them your work not giving them to them to print (well not yet anyway ;):D)

Easy solution: Put up a web gallery and send them a link.

Less easy: I usually put together a PDF using LaTeX if it comes to it. If you need information or help about a PDF, let me know.

    Thanks.
The online photo portfolio sounds like a good idea. Any free ones you can reccommend?
I was advised of ones like www.carbonmade.com.
