    From the NTSA website:
    National 50m Prone Championships
    Sunday, 22 June 2008

The NTSA regrets to announce that the National Prone Championships scheduled for today were cacelled because of the severe weather conditions. This decision was made this morning in view of the high winds and the danger represented to those assembling the targets as well as to the targets themselves.

A provisional date of 20th July 2008 has been set for the rescheduled match at the same venue. Please check back here for further updates.

    as to the targets themselves.

You just have to admire a group of target shooters that are concerned as to the well being and general health of a paper target :D:D:D, a green mean shooting machine . ;););)

They're electronic targets that cost the equivalent of a smallish second-hand car each. :p

    Hi All,

This might be a silly question but I'll ask it anyway, is it only the more prestigious events that use these electronic targets? I can understand not using them if there's a possibility they might get damaged due to high winds etc. but in that case could normal paper targets not be used?

    BountyHunter.

It's not the more prestigious events, but they're heavy so they're only moved from RRPC for the nationals. And you could have used paper targets - but you'd still be as unsafe in that high a wind. And when the winning score in the nationals is 23, you know the wind was too high :D

RRPC and UCDRC have electronics. Rathdrum lend theirs out for some competitions, usually for things like the nationals or selection matches. So it tends to be anything in UCD, anything in Rathdrum and anything where RRPC are willing to haul all the gear to another range.

I heard that the competition was called off before I could get to the range, but from the sounds of things the paper wouldn't have stayed up either.

Only just realised what you were asking there BH - the targets wouldn't be damaged by the high winds (well, they would, but that's not the thing) - they'd be damaged by the bullets hitting them when people's shots were blown a foot or three to the left at 50m by 60-100kph winds!
    :D

Ditto, I'm trying to reorganise my plans around it. Pain in the arse though. Stupid wind.

As one of the hardy souls trying to erect:eek: the target units, I can assure you that we couldn't keep them secured to the posts. One minute the wind was blowing downrange at 80k, next minute it was uprange at a similar speed! Even the wind flags were being ripped out of the ground. Paper targets would have been torn away from their clips. It was really atrocious.
