I can't really advise anything on the technical aspect of the photo.

However from a viewers perspective, I think its too cluttered or something. Railings, bushes, signs, houses etc. all in the one frame. The woman seems to be too far to the right hand side also and the window over her head has too much glare.

I'm new to this so don't take too much of what I say to heart :)

Is it a bit soft? I just woke up so my eyes are still a bit weird.

was gonna say the same thing. Looks like a bit of camera shake!

I would have put her on the opposite side of the frame

I like the b/w treatment but then again I like that on most of your shots. The wide angle works well. I feel though that there isn't anything overly pleasing about the shot in terms of the subject matter. The lady to my mind is just a tad too tight to the right or that the crop has been too harsh on her. I think you are correct to not follow the rule of thirds - even though i'm suggesting a move of the subject back towards the left. Perhaps something in between maybe? The scrub behind the railing is distracting and doesn't add anything to the composition (imho) but then again I think I'm understanding what you are at, as in, taking things as they are and not being too worried about manufacturing an artificial scene.

    Keep em coming!

By your own standards Barry this is one of your weaker ones, pic looks a bit soft and ya woman seems like she had to fight to even get into that little bit of the picture"!

    thanks for feedback,
i've been experimenting , and didn't want it too crisp, keep a bit of mystery to it.

Heres one from my phone , of the great Philo

Thats were the person makes the picture, far better!!
Woulda being great using your D300 though, Mobile cam lacks contrast on Mr Lynott.
I assume that picture was taken very early?

Looking at the 2nd picture it makes the woman now most def look like a Prostitute in the 1st one.

    :)

So are you saying that you thought the first shot was just a regular woman walking down the street

    Eh?
I know plenty of women who are "sharp/rough" looking but that doesn't make them Prostitutes.
What I tried to say is that the 2nd picture highlights the "conditions" of the 1st picture which now makes me ask the question I asked!!!!

i actually still prefer first shot ---
second one is for the bin ...

    thanks again all

lol Baz for some reason that made me laff, watching Little Britain at the same time maybe has made me giddy though. :pac:

Baz, I don't know what everyone else thinks of the motion blur in the photographs but for me, I don't think it adds anything to the photographs. If you want it less sharp maybe you could buy a UV filter and smear vaseline on it?

Same here, I think the 2 pics by the canal are awful.
I think I know the affect you're looking for but it isn't working and if the lady was sharper it would be much better.

As for your shot outside Bruxelles, its a much better shot.

    Phone camera>>>>>>>>>>>>>>D300 :p

ok , last one , its not something i regularly do intentionally , as we nearly always want crisp shots , but for these i did -- the street lighting wasn't giving the flourescent look , that might have worked in colour

That picture wants me to have her face even more "normal"

maybe its just late , but i've posted a couple kissing by Baggot street bridge , and i prefer the blurry one , more atmospheric , than the sharp one - just my opinion

    Hahahahah
This time I too prefer the blurry one and do you know why?
It look's like you had to rush and take the picture so as not to get caught and hence the blur.
2nd one is far far too posed.
btw how did pic 2 have a black night background and the 2 have earlier timed backgrounds?

I take it you're not a shy type and you literally stop many people and ask to take their photograph........
Are you shy when you haven't got your camera though?

that couple were great , had a good chat , sometimes people don't want it , and that cool too . Particularly near Port Laois jail

Glanced through your site and would have to disagree with your classing of Iggy Pop as Punk Rock though, he may have influenced some Punk bands but that was about it.
Normally it's me pulling up people who claim Green Day as Punk Rock. :)

got a fright when i saw this couple , some of you might remember from last year , very drawn , and great sadness in the eyes

on a technical note , following Guy gowans talk , I'm over doing my sharpening a bit ; more results on
