Migrate from Lightroom (Windows) to Aperture (Mac)

    Hey everyone,

I've had to use Windows as my primary operating system for the past 12 months or so with Exams, Work Etc so I haven't had the chance to use my Macs as much.

I'm thinking about getting Aperture for my new Mac (I have a voucher so I may as well). I currently use Lightroom on Windows and I was wondering if there would be any problem migrating?

Any feedback would be appreciated on this one .... and no Windows jabs! ;P

By the way ... I've thought about where to post this. I could have posted it in the photography thread but I decided to post here as Aperture is Mac only.

Aperture 2 is a huge improvement over the earlier versions. Speed and quality being the main areas of improvement. For what I do it works fine and the layout is typical of Mac Professional apps - Final Cut, DVD Pro etc. As for migrating your Lightroom library over to Aperture, this thread on the Apple support forums discuss the merits . . or not !

I presume you know that Lightroom is available for the Mac so cost aside you don't need to give up something you're used to.

    Good luck !

    Thanks for the input Zen.

Well I'm just starting out.... I'm not using Lightroom that long and my friend said he'd buy my copy off me when I switch to Mac... plus the fact that I have a voucher which would mean I could get Aperture on the house I think I might as well.

I haven't been doing anything too amazing yet but I guess as I shoot more I will need more functionality and good organization. I may give the Trial a go for a week or two first... if there is a trial - If not I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a full version for a week or two.

Any other comments/suggestions/experiences would be appreciated.

Lightroom works the very same on Mac... I've seen people using Aperture, but tbh, I think Lightroom is better... but I've been using it since it was in Beta :o

Get yer Mac, get the trial for Aperture, and when that's up get the trial for lightroom, see which you prefer!

I use both extensively. I used to prefer Lightroom, until Aperture 2.0 came out - now its Aperture all the way for me!

Are you able to transfer your Windows Lightroom license to a mac version?

I believe Adobe allow this for Photoshop...

Yeah, alot of people have similar opinions on some of the Mac/Photography sites I've been checking out.

I'm not sure.... I might look into this.
I can just sell my Lightroom license to my friend anyway (There is a change of ownership process right?)
