    Anyone?
The only one iv ever used is the 300D one brings the menu /setup system to a 10D one making it ahndy for me when using it as a back up as my 20D is quiet similar to the 10D menu so i'm told :pac:

The 300D's the only one anybody's ever bothered with, and then probably only due to the fact that Canon really just used the 10Ds firmware with quite a bit of stuff disabled. Reenabling it was fairly straightforward, and worthwhile as the camera as shipped was so crippled. It probably got me at least another 18 months use out of the camera. Its successors have been nowhere near as crippled, so there's been no point I guess in anybody trying to hack the firmware.

Aww. I was hoping there would be some cool unlockable and moddable secrets.

Is this type of discussion not against the Boards charter?

There's non-destructive firmware mods for some of the p&s cameras

Don't forget, applying any such firmware will void all warranty on the camera.

And yeah, I would have thought this was against boards charter.

    Please Don't

Ask people about pirating software or talk about pirating software - How to's, Where to's, etc!

    From the sticky "Charter"

what about freedom of speech? eh?

i have trawled google for canon hacks, specifically 40d, and the only one that comes up is the 300d mentioned here.

    Oh well.

What about it? Boards have a charter, and it's simple - if you don't like the rules, don't post.

You can exercise freedom of speech elsewhere, you just don't have full freedom of speech on a site that has a charter.

You're thinking more of cracks. 'firmware hacks' = fixes / modified firmware ('software' built-in to the camera.) The only 'legal issue' is that the camera manufacturer won't support your camera / will voice the warranty, but as long as people are aware of this before changing the firmware, we don't really have a problem.

Freedom of speech is all very well but you post here by the grace of the admins and by and large they are against the advocating of breaking laws or licences.

Secondly, this may be just me but I'm at a loss to understand what you want? I mean when I go looking for PS stuff I've a good idea of what I'm looking for...you just seem to want a hack any hack...

makes no sense to me. If you said "I want my 40D to be able to do this....blah blah" I might understand better.

Hacks are grand. You're voiding your own warranties. As long as you don't talk about illegally downloading anything I'm happy.

On another note, you don't have 'freedom of speech' on boards.ie - Irelands laws on t'internet make boards.ie responsible for what you lot post, therefore, boards gets in trouble if you say something naughty.

As was already said, the 300D's firmware update was the only one with any big impact, I think there was one for the 20D aswell at some stage, and possibly one of the earlier 1D's.

If there's anything else out there, I'd be interesting in seeing it though!

digitally-yours thanks for the link that looks interesting. they mention a way of getting shutter speeds to 1/10,000...

Just looking for any type of hack really, see if it does anything interesting. Ye can stop bickering now.

    Digitally-Yours, that's a great link, thanks!

I'd be interested in seeing what effects it would have on the camera, i doubt shooting at 1/25,000 of a sec is going to be too good for it. Will keep reading through!

You seem to believe that any question about software relates to not legally copied software, and forgets the fact that there is software out there which is open and free.

For Canon P&S, you have the following:

    Cheers.
