Does it have to be sent to specialists(point of purchase) or can the local jewelers replace the battery?

I've heard you can bring it to your local jewelers, cheaper and quicker...but if anything goes wrong its on your cost

let us know what you do...........i think my watch is acting up a bit lately

I changed my own last time (S710), and it's been fine & waterproof since. I lightly greased the seal with silicon grease and was careful to tighten the four screws evenly and not too tight... Is there a Polar address in Ireland to send it too?

Send it back to the UK - if you do it yourself odds are you will kill your watch. I killed mine. Seemed grand for a month or two and then died. Cheap and gets back to you in five days.

I changed mine a few weeks back but wish I'd just sent it back. Nothing's gone wrong but I've since found out that it's not just the rubber seal but they have a vacuum machine to fix the back on - if you don't use this then it won't be waterproof for long.

I was more worried about losing the seal, and water/moisture getting in.

Cheers, I think I'll just go that route so and save the hassle of postage and waiting etc.

I have an S720i, as the red button has cracked I reckon the waterproof sealing is gone so I'll change the battery myself. When you get moisture inside the display vanishes but it is still working. I leave it in the hot press overnight and it's fine in the morning. Have started wrapping it in cling film prior to a damp ride which works well, but will still place it somewhere warm and dry after the ride to be sure.

The sensors are a bit of a nuisance, if they get knocked the plastic can break around the screw which allows water in. I glued one together and wrapped electrical tape around the join which lasted until the battery ran out over a year later.

Can't fault Polar Customer Service. I bought a Polar S710i several years ago and always sent my watch back for battery replacements. My watch started to suffer from steam getting in under the screen. The screen would come and go however eventually it just gave up the ghost. As I was well out of warranty I sent it back to Polar asking if they could rescue it and explaining that I had always returned it for battery changes just so that I could avoid this situation where water would get in and expressed my disappointment that this hadn't prevented this problem.

I didn't expect to get anything back and to be told that my watch was dead. What I got back was my old watch and brand new S725x to replace the broken watch. That's what I call good customer service and well worth paying a little extra once every couple of years.

Send the watch back and get it repaired. I've effectively had my watch rebuilt a few times for feck all each time.

Probably a good idea as I won't be using it much for a while.

+1 Fantastic customer service, bought an S625x off ebay a couple of years ago and after about 2 months condensation started to build up inside the screen and then it went dead. Rang Polar about it and they said to send it back with the receipt of when the ebay seller had sent it to replace the battery before the sale. A few days later got back a letter saying they couldn't salvage the watch as the condensation had damaged the motherboard but they had included a brand new replacement in it's place.
