    Hi

    Was looking at a way of using several machines to connect to my Vodafone 3G Broadband. Was gonna set up a home network but saw this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-G-Router-UMTS-Broadband-Vodafone/dp/B000CDWH2E#moreAboutThisProduct

    and was wondering if it will work.

    If so, I guess that I just connect as normal to the router and dont need the vodafone software to connect ?

    Any experience with similar out there or any help appreciated.

    You need a Vodafone 3G PCMICIA card to slot into the router. If you have an E220 or other USB dongle it won't work. Then you connect to the router using ethernet or wifi.

    If you don't have a PCMCIA card, may I suggest the Dovado UMR http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055288817

    Hi Onikage

    Thanks for the help. I have the E220 on vodafone. Will I need a PCMIA Card with this router (Dovado) that you linked ?

    Cheers

    Hi Szondi

    The Dovado will work with the following (from http://www.infoferenda.eu/index.php?product_id=1&page=shop.product_details&category_id=1&flypage=flypage.tpl&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2)

    * Huawei E220
    * Huawei E170
    * Huawei E172
    * Huawei E169G
    * Huawei E270
    * Huawei E226
    * Huawei E960 in USB modem mode
    * Huawei E800 Express Card (requires USB caddy)
    * Huawei E870 Express Card (requires USB caddy)
    * Novatel Wireless Ovation MC930D
    * Novatel Wireless Ovation MC950D
    * Novatel Wireless Merlin XU870 Express Card (requires XUA-1 USB adaptor)
    * Option GlobeSurfer iCON 7.2
    * Option GlobeSurfer iCON 225
    * Option GlobeSurfer iCON HSUPA
    * ZTE MF622 (next release)

    If you have the E220 from Vodafone, it will work with the Dovado. The Linksys model you linked to originally ONLY works with Vodafone's PCMCIA card. The Dovado has no slots for PCMCIA cards, but has two USB ports.

    Hope this helps

    The dovado works very well , you have to set the access point to the vodafone apn in the web interface of the router though before it will work

    also plug in the USB modem before switching on the router

    We keep a full list of supported USB modems at http://www.dovado.com/modems

    That list is continuously updated as we roll out new firmwares, something we are very active on. In these firmwares, we also introduce new features, and not just support for newer modems.

    We also have a specific page for all you mates in Ireland we love to look after: http://www.dovado.com/ie
