Does anyone know where I can get a black one of these or have they been discontinued altogether?

They're still available afaik, no idea where you could get a black one. I see Thomann.de only have white and sunburst.:)

I had a black one on order from Thomann about a year ago but they cancelled the order saying it was out of stock and they didn't know when they'd get it in again. I've tried various other sites and shops and no luck.
Oh to have a black bass! :)

Yeah I know, black basses sound better. :D
Maybe ask one of the shops in town if they'll order it in? Might cost a bit more than online though.

Not black....... but you could inquire if they'll be getting any in. :)

Hmm,...seems that they don't do black anymore in it.

You could always go for a Japanese Fender. The PB-62US is available in black and has American pickups.

It's £599 from Guitar Emporium in the UK.

Thanks for all the replies, it would seem as though black has been discontinued. Boo! :(

My current bass is sunburst which makes me want to go for something different and white doesn't appeal to me at all.

I'm off to San Fran next month so I may have a look while I'm over there to see can I find a black one.

Oh, well then if you want something different and black, you need one of these. :D

It's an Aria Pro II SB-1000CB. You need a back of steel for it though, clocks in at 11.5lbs.

Haha yeah. You should look for one of the new Fender American Standard Precisions. They've upgraded a lot of the parts (new bridge, new pickups, new tuners), and they've got a nice new flightcase that should be able to survive the flight back. ;)

Thanks for the advice, I'll bear it in mind when browsing!
What attracts me to the 62 is how it sounds, do the Standards sound like this? A lot of music shops I go in to the assistant is as clueless as me.:D

Most Precisions sound similar, but if you're stuck on the '62 maybe you'll find a NOS black one out in SF. :)

Of course, you can always change the pickup out for a different one to get a more vintage sound, maybe a Seymour Duncan Antiquity.

Or if you 're looking for that old school 60's sound you could put flats on. :)

There's no if about it. If you own a Precision it must have flats on it. :p
