Obtaining a birth cert

Dont know if I'm posting in the right forum but what the heck.
Problem. Many years ago my ex-girlfriend became pregnant with my child. We split up before she knew she was pregnant and things turned kinda sour. I have lost all contact with her and my child and don't even know where she lives. What bothers me now is that I don't even know the child's name or if its a boy or a girl. Can I get a copy of the birth cert from the registry office. All I have is the child's birth date (give or take a couple of days) and the mothers name and previous address. AFAIK these are public records but do I have enough info to obtain a copy? Any help would be great.

I wouldnt know if you have enough to go on with what you've got OP, but if you get yourself down to the office on Lombard Street they'll be very helpful.

A family member of mine traced someone after 50+ years with their help, and she'd nothing other than a name and the year in which they were born to go on, so if that can be done I guess you've a good shot also. Good luck.
