Question about Kea-Photo & Insurance

    Hey Folks,

I have a quick question concerning Kea-Photo. I was thinking of buying either a Canon 450 or 40D from them in the near future. I noticed they state that items can be marked as gifts for quick customs clearance.

Since these cameras are expensive items I’d obviously be concerned that they could get damaged or lost in transit from Hong Kong to Ireland. Since the declared value is needed for any insurance claim for damaged or undelivered / lost items, is a buyer covered if the item is marked as a gift?

    Cheers!

I recently bought a 40D (body only) from komplett, it cost €860, you can get €150 cashback, so it will cost me €710.

I had a look at kea photo, and it'll cost you €696 (inc. P&P).

Might be an idea to check out komplett if you're going for the 40D.

When an item is sent by post/courier, it is the sender who insures the item, and up to the sender to make a claim on the insurance.

The person receiving the item can't make a claim.

So, if Kea send you an item and it gets lost, it is up to them to make an insurance claim, and send you a replacement item.

the gift issue wouldn;t affect a claim - gifts still have a value

If you have any doubts check directly with Albert via e-mail - he is very good at getting back quickly and will reassure you

Thanks for the replies folks, I'd consider going with Komplett only I'm waiting on a refund to be processed on my credit card from Paypal and I don't think it'll be completed before the 30th :(

Magic, so how are you going to pay Kea then

Anyway, you can save even more in Belfast, about €620 after rebate. Kea are not the cheapest for a range of items in the current environment.

I'm only going to buy once I'm 100% sure I have the refund. I dont have & cant afford the total amount for the camera (probably the 40D) from my own money, however with the refund I can afford to make up the balance.

I'm currently in a dispute with a seller from Ebay who sold me damaged goods.

I've been told by Paypal over the phone that they see no reason why I shouldn't be refunded my money but I haven't received written confirmation. As such I'm not ordering an expensive camera until everything is 100% verified and the refund is sitting in my credit card, which wont be before the 30th (end of the cashback offer).
