    Help

I have organized for my kids to be looked after for a week in August around 2-9, so my husband and I can go away somewhere.

All fine and dandy, the question is where... we have too much choice & not enough experience other than London, Bruges & a sun holiday or two that is my knowledge of Europe & the world.

Where would people absolutely recommend to go, must go places of the world. I really appreciate your potential suggestions.

We have a reasonable budget to work with.

Do you want a city or sun holiday? Do you want somewhere within 3 hours flight from Dublin, or are you willing to travel further?

Dubrovnik (Croatia) is amazing. Really beautiful and not too far away. Aer lingus fly direct and there's a decent looking hotel just outside the walls of the old town. Or you could stay in one of the smaller towns just outside the main city. Cavtat is supposed to be good, although i've never been there. Also, there are daily ferries to islands, which look amazing too.

Another bonus is the city is really romantic at night. Here's a link with a bit of info: http://www.visit-croatia.co.uk/dubrovnik/

When we were there we were at the start of an inter-railing trip and we visited Dubrovnik, Split and Rijeka. Dubrovnik was the nicest by far. Split was really cool, but a bit more industrial, and Rijeka didn't really do it for me!

We did it on a tight-ish budget, but i'm definitely going to return soon with more money. Its not expensive, but its not the cheapest place in the world either. I really want to go back now! Just did an image search on google and the pics, while wonderful, just don't do it justice.

*EDIT* forgot to mention that there is an incredible looking national park in Croatia too. Plitvice i think its called. We didn't manage to get there, but it looks like it would definitely be worth a visit. I think there are day trips on buses to get there, but can't remember if they were from Split or Dubrovnik.

Why wouldn't Paris, the worlds most visited city and one of the most romantic be to of your list?

I would go against Paris for two reasons - both connected with august: busy & the heat - I have always wanted to go to Paris in Autumn with leaves falling etc etc (I think I have watched too many french movies in my teens).

At the moment we are looking at cycling or walking in Alps/Lake Garda or going to Budapest.

anyone any experience with the above
