    Hi folks.
I've a 1981 porsche 924 thats been left sitting for over a year. The battery's new, charged it up etc. Can't get it to start up. It's crankig ok, i.e. turning over. But not starting, as if the fuel isn't getting to the engine.
(Plenty of petrol in the tank etc).
Any advice for someone who knows less than nothing on mechanics.

    Thanks in advance

    Mc Guiver

as above - petrols octane rating can decrease over time.

drain as much as you can with a garden hose then give her a mini service ( change usual fluids, plugs etc. )

battery may need a jump or change but yeah just replace the petrol and see what happens, shouldnt be differicult because a beast of a saab i had wasnt started for something like a year to a year and a half.... jumped it and it started first time, no issues at all !!

gave her a mini service and when my father took her for a drive we got 44.1 mpg out of her on a warm evening !!

but yeah porshe's are robust sports cars so best of luck !

    Ass the lads said
    Its all about the basics.
Is the petrol getting to the engine? Fuel lines rot easily
and have you power at the distributor and a spark at the plugs..

    Cheers guys,
I havent gone near it with this constant rain. Hopefully at the weekend I'll give it a blast.

The battery is charged up, fuel lines/ wiring etc looks solid. I'll sort out new petrol and see where we go from there.

    Cheers guys

Check to see if the fuel pump is running. It is under the drivers side rear, near the rear wheel. You should hear it hum with the ignition on.It may only make noise for a few seconds though.

If you dont hear this then check the fuses. These cars have a "DME" relay, normally behind the glove box and when you turn on the ignition this relay powers the Ignition ECU which in turn powers another terminal on the same relay which powers the fuel pump. Its a double contact relay and the go faulty on most Porsches that have them There have been several modification to them also.

If this is the problem, ie you cant hear the pump, it is possible to by-pass this relay and verify its the fault before you spend €50+ on new one !
