    hey
i am thinking of getting a new puppy a blue roan cocker spaniel. its just i have already two dogs a mini alaskan huskey and springer spaniel but the two of them our female both nuetered they are six and five years old just wonderin if they are too old to have a new dog introduced into their environmrnt. the springer is great with other dogs and real playful and gentle but can sometimes play a little rough but the huskey can get bit irritated with new dogs snappy and barking but if she is around for a while will get used to them but not sure if i would fully trust her wit a puppy. they share a kennel and get on great but wonderin would it be a bad idea to put the puppy in with them obviously when its a little older and can hold its own ground. also have a cat who is old she gets on great with the spaniel but hates the huskey wonder if this would affect her either. just wonderin if anyone had any views on this.
    cheers

A mini alaskan husky? O.O do you mean an Alaskan Malamute? In which case there is no "mini" version as far as I know.....

As for introducing a newbie, a) would you not consider a rescue puppy or dog rather than buying one? and b) if they have been well socialised with a variety of other dogs then it shouldn't be too hard. A good way is supposed to be to get them to meet somewhere neutral (i.e. beach, park, wherever) and then bring them all home together rather than bring the pup straight into the house.

It will be difficult for the first few weeks and you can expect many tantrums but after about two months they should have accepted the new puppy and gradually over time the new puppy will be an integral part of the pack.

You just have to lay down the law that the new puppy is here to stay and be quite dismissive of any tantrums the other's may throw.

Treat them all equally - including the new puppy. :)
