Dell XPS M1330 Wont charge

I'm having an issue with my 8-month old XPS (and beginning to realise that all the people who told me not to buy a Dell were right).

Having accepted that the integrated web cam and the fingerprint reader don't work since I don't use them much anyway - now the thing wont charge. The battery is constantly at zero but it works off the power cord.

Has anyone got any idea how to get it charging again? It's a distinctly immobile laptop at the moment.

When you turn it on it says that the AC adapter needs to be 'reseated' but I don't know what that means and it also says to connect the right kind of adapter but given that I only have the one it came with, it is the right one....

    any help appreciated!

Take out the battery, put it in again. Then double check the power connection.

You may have to return it to Dell or get someone out to look at it.

If its only 8 months old then its still under warranty get it back to dell and get all the faults fixed before your warranty runs out.

I was going to post that too. Ring them up and give out stink and see if you can get a replacement rather than just a repair and a warranty extension. Its worth a shot anyway.

    Might be worth a shot.

    Take out your battery.
    Unplug laptop.
Depress power button continuously for over 30 seconds.
Put back in battery and boot up.

If the webcam/fingerprint readers are not functioning make sure the appropriate software/drivers are installed on the system. These should be locateable from the Dell drivers and downloads support on their website

    just call dell,
theres no point giving out on a forum if you havent even given dell the chance to fix it.

The dell website hosts its own Message Boards, each one is set up for the individual computer model: you might find your answers there posted my another person using the same model laptop. Otherwise you can get linked to 24 hour chat support from there.

Thanks! There's a technician coming out tomorrow because they couldn't work out anything over the phone.

It just occured to me from reading another thread that I have the 9cell battery too, perhaps that's something to do with it.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

Did you get it sorted Elmyra?

Apologies for dragging this back up, only saw the question now.

Technician fixed it but couldn't say why it happened. I've been on to Dell about extending the warranty because I'm afraid it'll happen again at my expense, but no joy.

My dell xps M1330 is the torture of my life at the min. I've written to them, emailed, phoned but they keep telling me original problem is fixed, prob is theres more problems. Ugh i can't wait to get rid of the thing. Seems to be the big prob with dell is they won't recognise some lap tops are faulty and need to be replaced not just fixed.

Yeah, I'm very disappointed that I didn't get an Apple! That's what I'm going to do next time. Just keep calling them, that's what I'm doing. They start to respond a little better every time when you give them your case number and they look it up and realise that perserverance is your middle name :). They also get very disgruntled when you tell them about all the friends you've talked out of buying Dell products.
