hi, im not sure if this is the correct place to place this thread, so move if necessary.
i have booked a tour with usit, paid for tour and rtw flight tickets.
i just received an email saying that the tour has been altered(supposed to leave on july 4th), and as a result, kamuka were offering a full refund.
i asked usit when will i receive my refund for tour and tickets (just over 3grand in total) and the reply states a
    "cancellation fee of 266euro" AND
"cancellation fee of flight tickets 930euro"

surely the cancellation fee for the tour is a load a bollocks, as its not my fault the tour had been altered to the degree that even kamuka themselves were offering a full refund.

but 930 quid to cancel rtw flight tickets??
    tell me thats not right:mad:

any help out there at all?

I'm presuming you booked the tour and the flights separately? ie. you may have booked them both with Usit but the tour company will only take responsibility for the tour that it is changing. In that case I would imagine you are entitled to a full refund of your tour fees (similar thing happened to me but I booked it directly with the company so they just refunded my credit card, no problems). There's no way USIT should be charging you a 'cancellation fee' for this.

The tour company would have no liability for your cancelled flights so I'd imagine so you need to look up the terms and conditions for those flights to see the cancellation charges. THe airline won't care why you cancelled them. 930 euro does seem high though but if you booked a special low cost deal there's probably high cancellation fees. Could you not go anyway and go on a different tour?

I would first ring usit to get clarification. If you're not happy then put everything in writing and wait for response, still not happy with this then maybe go to National Consumer Agency. Get USIT to explain why they are charging you a cancellation fee for a holiday that should have a full refund - maybe wires just got crossed somewhere. The flights cancellation could be right though so be prepared to loose that money.

    thanks for the response guys.
im definitely questioning the tour cancellation fee, as according to usits own website, the contract is with kamuka tours not usit.and kamuka have already offered a full refund, so where this cancellation fee comes into it I cant understand.
with the flights, i have booked from dub to london, london to Johannesburg, from there to sydney.and sydney home to london to dublin again. as the johannesburg flight is useless to me, i would be willing to rearrange the dates and fly london to sydney and spend the extra time there.
does anybody know if there are fees to rearrange dates?

well, a sturdy email went a long way with the usit crowd.
somehow the 266 tour cancellation fee was a mistake made by a staff member apparently..
it now appears that the flight cancellation fee would be 880, thats a lot of money.might just take the tour,
so how long do it take to get a visa for oz?
    and is travel insurance expensive?
    cheers everyone
