Anyone know why the crest on Limerick's 1973 All-Ireland winning jersey is blank?

I bought a replica yesterday in a shop on Cork and the guy behind the counter was also wondering why it's blank ........... anyone know??

www.retrogaa.com are selling replica jerseys from years gone by - reasonable quality, though I'd prefer a tad more cotton than poly!

    COME ON LIMERICK!!!!

I can't answer that one for you, i asked my father who attended that '73 final and he doesn't know either. I can remember going to Limerick games as a nipper, when Golden Vale was our shirt sponsor around 91-92 and they still wore the blank white crest.

I remember asking a Limerick player in the early 90's that very question. His response at the time was that the crest was in the shape of a heart and that the heart was left blank as the onus was on each player to fill the heart on the pitch. Don't know whether this was his own personal view or this was the reason. The player in question was Ger Hegarty.
