    Folks,

Anybody any insight into the thinking behind the second interview. Interviewing with the same people as the first one (which was long and concise) but wondering what direction this one will take, has the number of applicants been whittled down, whats new in this interview that hasnt been broached in the first one? etc..

    Thanks in advance

I used to work in recruitment and from experience found that the second interview had whittled down candidates and would only be a small number of people who have a real shot at getting the job.

Generally, the questions in second round are more in depth (e.g more technical or asked to give more examples) and you may meet other people this time, possibly more senior people. I would recomend you do a lot more research into the job and the company for the second round interview and draw on that in the interview. I wouldnt say that your guaranteed to have the job but you have a good shot if you prepare well for it and take it just as seriously as the first interview. Best of luck!

In my experience, a second interview means the job is yours as far as the first interviewers are concerned, but someone more senior wants to have a chat with you.

You'll probably be interview by the first interviewer's manager.

You'll be asked a lot of the same questions as the first interview. In my opinion, just do what you did in the first interview and you'll be fine.

well you've made it past the first round, they'll probably go back over a lot of the same old ground as the 1st but with more in-depth questions, more details, and more scenario questions.

Personally i rarely bother to cover the same questions as in the first but try to look deeper into the areas where you answered well (to make sure you know exactly what you're talking about) and try and dig a lot deeper into any areas that I thought the candidate was a bit weak on... so if there were questiosn you didn't answer well first time round, expect to be grilled on those topics.
