My 5th generation iPod has just died and i'm on the verge of replacing it.

Has anyone any alternatives? I've heard about the Archos, looks ok?

    Thanks

Archos is good but they are very big. The Zune is a good choice but Ebay would be the best place to buy it. Some people like Creative but IMO, they are harder to use than the iPod. You could wait till September/October because chances are, there will be a new iPod released.

Nothing official has been said about new iPods but come Augest rumours start about new ones.

Personally I usually buy a cheap one so that I do not have to worry about loosing it or it breaking. My current mp3 player is a 1gb usb stick that I got for less than 30 dollars. I have had this one for over 2 years now and it still works like a charm.

have gone the cheap option and wouldn't like to do it again. i'd want something that plays videos anyway.

Not looked at the Zen, which one would you recommend?

Archos, the size thing - meh, it becomes irrelevant after a few days of owning one

    Cowon D2 ?
All depends on what capacity you are looking for really....with the newer D2's you can get 16gb plus can expand up to 32 with sd card
