Isabel at Sunset formed in Parma, Italy in early 2006. Prior to this, the main members of the band - Danilo Balconi (Balkous - guitar), Alain Marenghi (vocals), and Federico del Santo (The Saint- guitar) - knew each other and played in various local projects for years in and around Parma. Isabel at Sunset, however, did not get going as group until February 2006 with the addition of Filippo Bergonzi (Cianzo) on bass and (Kevin Coley) on drums. Kevin moved to Parma from the States (Atlanta, Georgia) in January 2006, whereas Cianzo hails from Colorno - a small town east of Parma with a healthy music scene.

The musical thrust of Isabel comes primarily from the efforts of Balkous and Alain, both of whom are solo performers in their own right. The duo serve as the band’s songwriting nucleus. Their musical styles are self-evidently indie and pop rock, with harmonic structures and arrangements blending to create their sound, referencing Pavement, Malkmus and Sonic Youth but unique in its own right. The decision for the group to sing in English was made to enable the band to connect with a larger audience. It was also made with consideration to the fact that the band’s principal influences are English and American groups.

In February 2007 Tea Kettle Records contacted them with interest releasing a full length album. Their debut, “Meet the Gang” was recorded over two weekends in May 2007. The material found on the disc is the culmination of six months constant songwriting and rehearsing in Parma. The album was released in early June 2007 in time for Tea Kettle to present it at the Mi Ami Indie Label Festival in Milan. The weeks following Meet the Gang’s release have brought reviews for the album and*their live performances (in particular: Musicboom, Rockit, Rockon, Indiepop.it, the US webzine Treblezine and many others). As for the rest of the summer, Isabel will be playing shows throughout Italy to support the release of “Meet the Gang”.

With more than 20 dates, the Meet The Gang! tour brought Isabel at Sunset all over Italy garnering high praise along the way.In March 2008 Isabel at Sunset venured out of Italy for the first time with their first tour UK tour, and in June they return to the UK and have a short Irish tour arranged.

    Some Reviews:

“The most charming, enjoyable piece of plastic that I’ll hear all year. With both eyes open, Meet the Gang! still makes me really happy to be alive.”

Album of the week- Treble Zine

“A continental take on the same sort of literate, meta-referential and yet hyperactive Indie pop/rock mix that Britain's Los Campesinos! do so well…Highly recommended.”

    The Runout Groove

“Isabel at Sunset do an admirable job of putting a new spin on the fractured country-blues of their heroes’ classic Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain LP. Meet the Gang! is a fine collection of heartfelt, summery indie pop…it is bloody good fun”
    God Is In The TV

“Endlessly fun indie pop songs… “Meet The Gang!“ is a timeless, genre-crossing debut record that, in time, will have you singing and dancing with the rest of us.”

    Mumblin Deaf Ro

    l_23152fba36f7c5cf9b264150da235424.jpg

No stranger to the Ballroom of Romance, Ronan Hession aka Mumblin Deaf Ro is one of if not the finest lyricists and songwriters in Ireland. His music glides effortlessly between finger picking folk to jangling indie pop, all the while singing tales of the regret of a failed Latin American President, the slow drift to despair of a drowning man, lovelorn mental patients, failed boxers, and frustrated authors (to mention a few songs). Not typical subject matter by any means, but imaginate, literary, equal parts sad and happy and all the while fascinating.
He has released one E.P. with Thomas Dunning and your Boyfriends "Fed up and Strange" (2006) and two albums "Senor, my friend" (2003) and last year's "The Herring and the Brine".

Trying to measuring the exact distance between the pastels, the beach boys and the incredible string band, pantone247 has spent the past four years or so hand-building pop songs in the back bedrooms of cheap rental houses all across dublin. having spent time operating a guitar in indie pop instituions such as capratone and house of mexico as well as playing odds and sods with an early version of groom and bass guitaring for jangle poppers crumb, pantone247 enjoys cycling very fast, lying very still and jumping very high

Night on Earth met in Dunnes stores and the Sleepless night soul Club in 2007. They've been preparing for their first live shows and a subsequent Album?! They practice our music in Smithfield fruit and vegetable market among the olive oil and the pounded yum and are constantly hungry. They don't know where this musical journey will take us but hopefully it will include you.
