I don't really have much interest in games (champ manager is about as far as I go) so I haven't gone for model with an upgradable video card. I'll mostly be using it for multimedia, dvd, pictures, browsing, downloading etc. Just wondering if I'm wasting my time upping the memory and processor specs if I don't plan on gaming with it?
The spec above comes to just over €800 including VAT + Delivery

But then as always theres the nagging doubt in my head that i might want it for games at some stage, but I had my previous laptop for 2 and a bit years and never played much on it bar a couple of the old medal of honour games. If I did decide to go for one with a semi decent video card there is also the Inspiron 1720 for €958.55 inc VAT. This comes with:

    - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache)
    - Microsoft Operating System Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
    - Memory 4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
    - Video Card nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory
    - Hard Drive 500GB (5400RPM) SATA Dual Hard Drives (2X250GB)
    - Modem 56.6k V.92 Capable Internal Modem & Adapter - Ireland/Spain
    - Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
    - Wireless Networking Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card - Europe - Core 2 Duo Processors
    - Bluetooth Dell™ Wireless 355 Bluetooth + Dell™ Bluetooth 2.0 Stereo Headset - Eur
    - Primary Battery Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr
    - LCD 17.0" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™

I don't really know what I'm asking! I suppose do you think it's worth up the spec on the 1525 to 2.4GHz Processor and 4GB of RAM, or if I'm doing that would I just be better off going for a lower spec XPS or the 1720?

If that's the case then don't bother upgrading the ram and the processor. The difference will hardly be noticeable.

Ya, thats what I was thinking.

The base setup has 2.10 GHZ T8300 with 3GB of RAM

For €80 more I can get the 2.4GHz with 4GB of RAM that i have above, so I was kinda thinking for that price it seemed worth it.

Also if I start with the "middle" build 1525 and upgrade from there to the same specs as the machine at the "end" it comes in much cheaper. I'm thinking I must be missing out on something though.
