icon5.gif80's American Standard Versus Start Plus
    Hi,

Can you offer me an opinion on which is the better option for a stratocaster. I've played a few nice 1988 American Standard Strats, but I've heard that the 1989 Strat Plus is a better guitar.

Can you advise which year is the best for the american standards?

Which year is the best for the Strat Plus?

And which is the best year/make combination overall?

    Thanks!!

The plus uses gold lace sensors, so if you like that sort of thing, go for it. They're rare enough guitars. I was looking for a Tele Plus, but never found a cheap one.

IT has a roller nut as well I think, and a new tremolo system.

I am not a Fender man, but i bought an '89 USA Strat Plus about 3 years ago.
The Lace Sensor pickups were already changed, but most fender experts don't agree with them anyway. Funny looking Wilkinson nut...big steel nut. Push/pull tone pot for the Hendrix tones and the Sperzel tunning heads.
I have to say it's a great job alright, feels nice and the tones are classic.

Like i said earlier, i am not a Fender man, ex-Gibson....currently PRS, but i think they are the business alright.

I just noticed today that Kilkenny Vintage guitar shop is selling 2 '88 USA Strats for about €1400 each......too dear, but there is always one eejit.

If you live near Dundalk, PM me and have a go on my Strat Plus.....i can't do any more than that....
