Two years ago my oh and myself went to Thailand and went to Koh Samui etc. We are going back this year, but are incorporating five days in Phuket. Any recommendations for accommodation (or places to avoid)? We want a nice beachside resort / hotel but near all the action.

What do you mean by 'action' - personally I'd avoid Phuket. Very touristy, and commercial. Go to Krabi.

i was there last year, in karon beach.
it was nice and its very relaxing. now at night there wasnt much to do, so we usually had to get a tuk tuk to patong beach, which is the main area and a short journey away, its grand.

http://www.phuket.com/ is a great website to check everything out, very handy.

any other questions, let me know

Last time we did everything un-touristy and this year we decided to have five days at the beginning living it up a little in a typical "sun holiday" fashion before we go back to Koh Samui / Koh Tao to do the diving holiday. He is more into diving that me, so his idea was to have the five days in Phuket doing the touristy thing for me before the rest of the holiday which is geared more towards him.

This one's pretty close to the beach and a mall.

    Banyan Tree
