Upgraded macbook hard drive - slower boot up

I recently upgraded my 80gb macbook hard drive to a 320gigger. I used the disk utility booted from cd to create and then restore the hard drive image and everything worked fine but i've noticed that when i boot up now it seems to stay on a white screen for around 15/20 seconds before i get to the chime and the apple logo where i used to get that straight away before i upgraded.

It's probably not that big a deal but one of the things i loved about the macbook was how quick the boot up was before the hard drive upgrade. It seems like the machine i checking something on the hard drive before booting.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the 80GB drive in your MacBook originally but if it was a 7200RPM (maybe it was, but most likely a 5200RPM) you would notice a difference because there is no 320GB 2.5" drive that spins at 7200RPM (yet) and I think not even 5200RPM... most are stuck at 4200RPM still at that capacity which would be a noticeable drop in access speed.

Definitely to do with the hard drive size.

Takes a good big longer for a 320GB drive to load compared to an 80GB, especially on a hard drive where the drives spin at a slower speed.

Ah ok thanks. I suppose its a worthy trade off for the extra disc space considering i keep it in sleep most of the time.
